DON'T SAY
WE DID NOT KNOW #121
As a child I used to
put coins in the JNF collection box. At the time I didn't know that land "redemption" also means
land theft.
Ronen Hayman, a JNF
employee, used to meet Nuri ElUqbi in Nuri's protest tent in
El'Araqib. Every time, he would ask
Nuri - "Who'll make coffee, you or
me?" - for the past two
years.
On 8th July, 2008, when Nuri was in hospital, Ronen
arrived, accompanied by a D7 bulldozer, and people of the green patrol. They
took away Nuri's tent and equipment.
The bulldozer dug pits into the land to prevent Nuri from putting up his tent again. Nuri filed a
complaint with the police.
On 17th July, 2008, Ronen arrived
again, told Nuri he had to leave the
place, and cut the strings of his new tent. On 23rd July, 2008 Nuri called the police to
complain that a JNF tractor was
working on his land without his permission. Police who arrived arrested Nuri...
Historical background:
In August 1949, most of the people
of the El'Uqbi tribe were expelled from the state.
On 13th November, 1951, the remaining
people were transferred to Khirbet Hura, being promised that they could return six months later. Nuri is demanding implementation of
that promise. (See Don't say
